BlackBerry Bold 9900 OS 7.0.0.317 official from Vodafone New Zealand

Bold 9900

If you enjoy updating your BlackBerry Bold 9900, but prefer to only load an OS that lands as an official instead of leaked versions, Vodafone New Zealand has given us something new to play with. As we know 7.0.0.353 leaked yesterday, and today Vodafone New Zealand has released an official OS for the 9900, 7.0.0.317. Eventho this OS is an official, excercise caution when installing this on your device, and be sure to let us know in the forums how it goes for you.

Three UK, Vodafone UK, Rogers, Virgin Canada, & TELUS Confirm Curve 9360

BlackBerry Curve 9350 9360 9370 BlackBerry Curve 9350 9360 9370 second shot

The tree is shaking now that RIM has announced the new Curve lineup and carriers are falling out confirming the BlackBerry Curve 9360. Other than Sprint they are not talking launch dates but they are confirming the device. You have to love how US carriers are always the quietest. Here are the latest confirmed carriers:

Blackberry Bold 9900 up for pre-order at Vodafone UK, first official price tag

RIM was tight-lipped about pricing and availability when we went hands-on at the official launch of their OS 7-equipped Bold 9900, Torch 9810 and Torch 9860 handsets. We still can’t be sure exactly when the Torches will hit British shelves, but the Bold 9900 is already standing proudly up for pre-order at Vodafone UK, along with a commitment to arrive at your doorstep in roughly a week’s time if you take the plunge. However, just like the leaked T-Mobile USA pricing, it won’t come cheap in the UK either: you’ll need to swallow a £41 ($67) monthly price plan on a two-year contract before they’ll give you the handset for free. Alternatively, you can opt for a monthly contract at half that price and pay a daunting £399 ($650) upfront for the phone. Nevertheless, if you’re a BB fan and you’re convinced of this form factor, then we predict you’ll get on well with 9900’s particularly chunky keyboard, high-res screen and top-notch build quality — or you could just wait for our full review.

Update: It’s just been spotted going cheaper at Carphone Warehouse — free from £31 per month on Vodafone or £500 off-contract, also with an August 12th delivery date. Let the market forces ensue.

[Thanks, Roberto and Anthony]

Mobile Miscellany: week of August 1, 2011

Here’s some of the other stuff that happened in the wide world of wireless for the week of August 1, 2011:

  • Vodafone unveiled the world’s first prepaid-only Facebook phone, dubbed the Vodafone 555 Blue. It has a portrait QWERTY, 2 MP camera, 2.4-inch display, and a few other minor features added in. No word was given on pricing or availability, only that it’ll be sold through its own shops and website. [via Pocket-Lint]
  • The Motorola Milestone Plus is Cellular South’s variant of the Droid Pro, a portrait QWERTY that runs Android 2.2 and has a 1GHz CPU and 3.1-inch display. It can be yours for $200 with a two-year commitment and after a $50 mail-in rebate. [via AndroidCentral]
  • While we’re chatting about Cell South, the regional carrier will soon release the Samsung Admire, the same entry-level Android device we’ve peeked at en route to MetroPCS. No pricing or availability have been announced. [via AndroidCentral]
  • A phone with the model number LG-P699 received its Bluetooth certification this week. It’s widely speculated that this phone’s the Optimus Net. [via PhoneArena and PocketNow]
  • Screenshots and an APK of Sony Ericsson’s latest home launcher for its Xperia series were leaked this week. Most of the changes are subtle UI differences. [via Xperiablog]
  • Rogers announced the upcoming availability and pricing of the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Torch 9810, and Torch 9860. All three will be added to the lineup this summer, and all will require a three-year commitment. The 9900 will be sold for $250, and both Torches will be priced at $200. [via MobileSyrup]

BlackBerry Bold 9900 coming to O2 UK in August

BlackBerry Bold 9900 O2 UK

If the BlackBerry Bold 9900 has captured your imagination and you happen to live in the UK, then listen. RIM’s upcoming powerhouse of a BlackBerry smartphone has now made an appearance on O2 UK’s website with a “coming soon” label pointing at an August release. No exact release date as of yet, but you can tell that the wait is soon coming to an end.

Other carriers in the UK have announced future availability of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 as well, with Three UK promising a September 15th launch and Vodafone UK taking it easy with only a “coming soon” banner and no mention of anymore detail. It should be noted that Phones4u has already revealed both pricing and details on availability (via Vodafone) with a delivery date of August 24th for pre-orders. Whether a release in late August or earlier, the release is near – I can feel it.

Can you feel it, NHCBBA  Nation? Sound off in our comments below please!

BlackBerry Bold 9900 dummy units begin to arrive at Vodafone UK locations

Bold 9900 Dummy

Earlier this month we saw that Vodafone listed the Bold 9900 as “coming soon” and it appears as though the dummy units have begun appearing in stores. As the past has proven, once dummy units begin to arrive at stores, usually the device is not far off, so could we possibly see the Bold 9900 land in stores in August? Vodafone customers, can you feel the excitement? Be sure to let us know if you will be snagging one of these upon release, or waiting to see some reviews first here on NHCBBA.

Orange UK offers daily 30MB for £3 roaming option for fee weary travelers

OrangeOh Orange UK customers, you lucky dogs, your carrier is giving you a bit of a break as we enter globe-trotting season. No longer are you chained to absurd per-MB roaming charges or unnecessary monthly plans. Instead, you can shell out £3-a-day (about $5) for 30MB of data — which is plenty for checking e-mail and doing some light browsing. If you don’t use any data then you don’t get charged (sweet!), but go over that limit and you’re back to the normal £3.07-per-MB rate (not so sweet). It’s a perfect option for the traveler who only spends a week or two abroad at a time, and it closes the gap with fellow UK provider Vodafone, which offers a £2-per-day, 25MB option. Now, if only others (especially our friends here in the US) would offer sensible roaming plans of their own.

Vodafone DE lists BlackBerry Bold 9900 as coming soon

Vodafone DE Bold 9900

Vodafone seems to be the winner in the “coming soon” race with the BlackBerry Bold 9900. Vodafone DE in Germany now has listed the upcoming device on their coming soon page. While there is no release date listed (as has been the case in other sightings) it’s still a step in the right direction. Nothing big noted along here as the site just lists the specs of which we already know but no preorder or other info. There is a sign up page to be notified when things start moving along however. Hit the link below to check it out.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 heading to Three UK in August

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Three UK

While an official release date of any sort is still a mystery for the much-anticipated BlackBerry Bold 9900, many carriers are dropping hints here and there as to just when we might see the device. A few days ago Virgin Mobile Canada said the device was coming “super soon” and Vodafone has also posted a sneak peek video leading us to believe a release is right around the corner. Three UK now has the device listed as arriving in August which could mean an announcement isn’t too far off. We’ve been waiting since the device was first announced at BlackBerry World for an official release on any carrier, so hopefully things will pull together in the near future and we’ll be able to get our hands on one before the summer is over.
