Review: BullGuard Mobile Security 10 For BlackBerry v10.0.233

Do you remember my post on the ZeuS trojan? With the issue of the ZeuS Trojan BlackBerry variant targeting BlackBerry devices, I set out on a mission. My mission was to seek the antivirus/security softwares that are capable of defending your BlackBerry from this and other malware. One such software is BullGuard. Check it out…

I sent out emails inquiring who had the virus definitions for the ZeuS, and the only one who responded was BullGuard. I thought it would be a great idea to do a review on this product and let you see how it works. I didn’t test the antivirus for good reason, but I did show the definitions from BullGuard. BullGuard has had the definitions and able to detect and remove the ZeuS trojan since the end of September 2010! It detects the trojan before it’s installed.

Customer service is fantastic through email. The live chat isn’t as helpful, but through email they are fast to respond and are very precise with answers and assistance. The app itself installs quickly, and with a key you have after purchase, you set it up and you’re ready to go. The nice thing about this app is that you have a dashboard to send commands and view your device.

The BullGuard Mobile Security 10 if you look closely, is very similar to SMobile security Shield, and if you look at the screens, you’ll see Junos Secured. Junos Networks is the company that acquired SMobile Systems. BullGuard includes the following for the device through the app:

  • Antivirus and Antispyware with real time detection and removal of viruses and spyware via direct download, SMS, MMS, e-mail, Bluetooth, and infrared.
  • Antitheft: Look and wipe remotely, track your phone via GPS (I can tell you that when you click on the larger map, it’s very precise).
  • Parental Control: Monitor your child’s calls, text messages, and photos.
  • Firewall
  • Spamlifter: Block calls and messages
  • Basic Backup: Contacts and Calendar
  • Forgetfulness: If you forgot where you placed your phone, you can log in and have the sound alarm so you can find your phone.
  • Support: Free support 24/7

What is BlackBerry ID? Your key to unlocking future BlackBerry services

BlackBerry ID BBID What is BlackBerry ID? Your key to unlocking future BlackBerry services

With the release of BlackBerry App World 2.0, RIM introduced the BBID, otherwise known as BlackBerry ID. This little app allowed you to have an App World account that stored all of the apps you downloaded via the BBID account versus them being PIN locked to your current device. This let users seamlessly transition between devices without losing the apps they had purchased in App World. It seems RIM is now interested in taking BBID to the next level by making it your universal key to unlock various BlackBerry services.

Once you’ve signed up for a BBID, you get the following message e-mailed to you with details about what BBID will be.

If you are in the USA and have been waiting to get your hands on a BlackBerry Bold 9780, the wait is over if you are in T-Mobile. Nevertheless, you could get the Bold 9780 and unlock it, if you wanted to pay full price of $449.99! Otherwise, both the white or black Bold 9780 come with a price tag of $129.99 with a 2-yr contract. Have you Tried DJ Hero Mobile for BlackBerry yet?

DJ Hero Mobile for BlackBerry

DJ wannabees, you ready to scratch? If you have a BlackBerry handy, now you can… Because Activision has launched DJ Hero Mobile for BlackBerry! Well, truth be told, the game has been available for about a month how, but somehow we missed it!

In DJ Hero Mobile for BlackBerry it’s up to you to scratch and mix your way through the game. You’ll hear tracks from the likes of the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Third Eye Blind and David Bowie. There’s 8 unlockable mixes within, 5 of which are available at the start of the game. 8 more can be unlocked as you progress. There’s also 22 achievements to unlock, including ‘scratchophobia’ as my favorite. Has a nice ring to it. Or something.

I won’t go into detail on how this one is played… If you’ve ever played Guitar Hero or Rock Band in your day, you know how it’s done. The only difference here is that you’re looking at the smaller display on your Berry, and hitting a few different buttons to operate the turntables. No big whoop.

All current-gen Berry devices are supported. However, you will need at least OS version 4.3 to make it work. To check, click Options > About on your device. The OS build will appear on the 3rd line of the resulting screen.

Enough talk. You ready to scratch? Hit up the product link below.

MetroPCS to customers: Bring your own phone

Company will program phones from other carriers to its network

By Peter Svensson
updated 6/27/2008 5:56:13 PM ET

NEW YORK — MetroPCS Communications Inc. has become the largest U.S. wireless carrier to say it will let customers bring cell phones from other carriers, which it will then reprogram for use on its own network.

This week’s announcement by the Dallas-based regional carrier is one of a series of moves in the industry that amount to a gradual opening of the U.S. wireless market, giving consumers more choice over what phones to use on what networks.

Carriers generally sell phones that are locked to their own service. This protects their business model, which is based on subsidizing the cost of the phone by hundreds of dollars, then making that money back on monthly service fees.

MetroPCS’s move threatens these traditional rules. It allows customers with certain models of phones from Sprint Nextel Corp., Verizon Wireless, Alltel Corp. and a few other carriers to bring their phones to MetroPCS stores, where they will be reprogrammed.

DJ Hero drops on App World

Dj Hero Mobile

At my house, Band Hero sits without being played; sometimes for weeks on end. Don’t get me wrong, I find it fun and addictive; I just don’t keep it hooked up all the time. If I want to be entertained, I want to be entertained now! I don’t want to have to spend time setting everything up first. BlackBerry users had the chance to play with Guitar Hero in the past, but now we have a chance to switch from “1, 2 – 1, 2, 3, 4!” and focus more on the ones and twos with DJ Hero Mobile.

In a similar style to Guitar Hero, DJ Hero Mobile focuses on timing and skill. Step up to the turntable and try to keep the beat while you scratch and cross-fade. As the product description says: “the more beats you successfully rock, the more mixes you unlock!”

Features:

  • 13 full-length, original mixes of tracks by artists including: The Jackson 5 and Third Eye Blind, Marvin Gaye and David Bowie, and Weezer and Dilated Peoples.
  • 8 unlockable mixes (5 available to play from the start, 8 more to be unlocked)
  • 22 achievements including “”Scratchaphobia”” and “”Full Set”” (completing all the game’s mixes at any difficulty setting)
  • Choose a DJ with unique and expressive animations and perform in 3 different venues
  • Controls faithfully re-create the console experience to include streams, scratches, cross-fades and EUPHORIA.

Just a word of caution: if you let the beat drop, don’t let your BlackBerry drop. It kind of, you know, voids the warranty. DJ Hero Mobile is available for $6.99 at BlackBerry App World. You know what? I think I might pull out Band Hero after all. Who wants to come over and jam?
