BlackBerry NHCBBA-UG (user guide) for the BlackBerry Bold 9780 now available for viewing

BlackBerry Bold 9780

Research in Motion continues to gear up for the launch of the BlackBerry Bold 9780. A couple of days ago, the BlackBerry manufacturer released its demo of the soon-to-be-available Bold 9780.
The 9780 will be the first Bold to sport OS6 right out of the box. Dummy units have begun to arrive in stores and the new Bold arrives at T-Mobile on November 17th.

Folks who want to get a feel for their future smartphone – or those who just want to see how OS6 will work on a Bold – should head over to the BlackBerry demos at RIM’s website. Since this is a demo and not a simulator, you won’t get to play around with the OS. But when it comes time to open up that box and start using your shiny new BlackBerry Bold 9780, you’ll be ready. Armed with the knowledge of how to set up and use your new device and raring to go.

T-Mobile gets first BlackBerry Bold with OS 6

By Suzanne Choney

T-Mobile joins AT&T and Sprint in announcing a BlackBerry running Research In Motion’s new and improved operating system, OS 6. But instead of being a new design, this updated phone is none other than the best-selling BlackBerry Bold. T-Mobile said Wednesday it will sell the BlackBerry Bold 9780 with OS 6 starting Nov. 17. The phone will cost $129.99 after a two year-contract.

Why is OS 6 a big deal? Anyone who’s used a BlackBerry knows, yes, it’s reliable and generally has great security, but it can be kludgy and slow compared to some of the sleeker, more fluid operating systems on competing phones. OS 6 has a new Web browser based on WebKit, the same engine used by Apple and Google. It’s much faster than its painfully slow and frustrating predecessor.

The hallmark of the new OS is universal search, something that also is already offered on the iPhone, Android and Palm devices. It lets users search their devices by keyword to find anything on the device — in e-mail, contacts or music, for example — to that keyword. All in all, the new OS is a friendlier experience.

In August, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion and AT&T had a gala unveiling of the BlackBerry Torch. The first RIM phone to use the new operating system, the Torch resembles a Palm Pre with its slide-out keyboard. Subsequently, Sprint and RIM announced the BlackBerry Style, the first flip phone running a BlackBerry OS. T-Mobile is the first to show off a more standard-issue BlackBerry, though Verizon is apparently close on T-Mo’s heels with an OS 6-equipped BlackBerry Bold of its own.

T-Mobile’s Bold 9780 is not a touchscreen model, like the Torch. The new Bold has a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and video recording. It uses a 624 MHz processor, has 512 MB of internal memory and support for up to 32 GB with a 2GB memory card included, says T-Mobile.

Oh, and for those who don’t want too traditional a BlackBerry, there will be a white model available, hopefully making it to stores sooner than Apple’s ill-fated little white knight.

Research In Motion Employees Grow Moustaches For Charity

RIMoustache Competition

Starting Nov. 1st, Research in Motion employees can start to participate in the RIMoustache Competition, a month-long moustache growing contest where proceeds will be donated to prostate cancer research.  There will be a $5 entry fee for each participant who must be clean shaven on November 1st.  Contest rules also state that no hair can be grown below the bottom lip and moustaches cannot be joined with sideburns in any way.

This sounds like a really fun way to raise money for charity.

Research In Motion has stepped out of their comfort zone with the PlayBook and it’s looking like a smart move. However, as with any BlackBerry product, we take an outside approach to its performance, functionality, comfortability, and interoperability when paired against the competition. LG launches a look-a-like Blackberry C300 Phone

Remember the saying If you can’t beat them, join them? Well Korean handset manufacturer LG have just changed it to if you can’t beat them, look like them. The new LG C300 has a QWERTY keyboard that gives you a very similar feeling to that of Research in Motion’s Blackberry.

Although it doesn’t pack much in terms of features as compared to a Blackberry device – lack of 3G, WLAN, GPS – it makes up for this with an adequate 2.4-inch TFT display (320 x 240 pixels resolution) and comes with a built in social networking widgets from Twitter, Facebook and MSN clients, push email and a 2-megapixel camera which will do for some everyday pictures. What the C900 has that isn’t present on a Blackberry is a built in FM radio (touché). One thing the C900 will have going for it is that it is the ideal student phone as its cost isn’t going to be more than 100 Euros.
