*OS Disclaimer – Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you’re comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. *

On top of UMA rollouts for the Curve 9300 and the Bold 9700, Rogers will be offering the service to the BlackBerry Pearl 3g 9100 as well. According to this leaked document, text messages were starting to be sent out yesterday notifying users that an OS update was available. After download, subscribers just need to tack on a Wi-Fi calling plan, and they can make unlimited Canada-wide calls whenever they’re in a wireless zone. This is a great option for those looking for a landline replacement, or just get crummy coverage at home.

If you don’t get the notification, got to Wireless Upgrade under advanced options on your BlackBerry 9100 to see if the OS update is available. The feature may very well be a selling point to some folks, but be sure to check out our review of the Pearl 3G before you sign up for that gruesome three-year contract.
