Leaked OS 6.0.0.600 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700

Happy Friday Bold 9700 users. Here we have a fresh leak in the form of OS 6.0.0.600. It’s hot off the presses, so if you’re big on leaks then fire this one up and report back. You can drop a comment here and let us know whats new and good or if we should steer clear. As always, use caution when installing any leaked os.

*OS Disclaimer – Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you’re comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our FAQ Section of our site via our extremely knowledgeable community base – do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Quick Tip: Simplify your BlackBerry Profiles

BlackBerry Profiles

Sometimes having too many sound profiles on your BlackBerry can be annoying. Normal, Loud, Quiet, Silent, Vibrate … do you really need them all? Personally I really just stick with Silent, Medium and Vibrate for most uses. I’ve actually migrated my Medium profile to Normal seeing as the Normal profile I rarely touched. I’ve eliminated all the profiles that never got used, making switching between them easier and slimming down in the process. If you’re like me and don’t go crazy with profile switching you can knock out a few as well. Keep reading for a few quick steps on how to delete those unused sound profiles on your BlackBerry.

Google Voice Number Porting Goes Live for All!!!

Just last week Google was teasing their Google Voice users by doing a soft test of their number portability feature. We are happy to report that Google has now taken that feature live for ALL current Google Voice users. New users will get the feature within the next few weeks. Google admits that this is one of their most requested features though some people prefer to have two numbers to screen calls.

For those of you who have always wanted to port your number to Google Voice just visit the Settings page at www.google.com/voice and click on “Change / Port” next to your Google Voice number. The process takes 24 hours and costs $20 payable by Google Checkout obviously. Keep in mind that porting your number will cancel your cellphone service plan. Check out the rest of the Google porting FAQ at this link.

Verizon officially kills off New Every Two upgrade discount program

Evidence has shown over the past couple weeks to call this a lock, but let’s just go ahead and close the loop on this one: Verizon’s official FAQ list has been updated to indicate that its New Every Two upgrade discount program is out. In short, that means that new lines of Verizon service won’t be eligible for an equipment discount after your two-year contract is up, and folks that are currently enrolled in an NE2-eligible plan will only be able to redeem the discount one more time before being taken out of it. The move kind of dovetails with Verizon’s decision a few months back to bump the smartphone ETF to a introducing $350. However, you will still be eligible for normal subsidized pricing once you pass into the upgrade period on your contract, you just won’t get an extra discount on top of that.
