Mobilicity brings OS 6.0.0.650 official for the 9700/9780 and the 9300

Mobilicity

With the recent release of the BlackBerry 7 devices, followed by quite a few leaks and official OS drops, owners of BlackBerry 6 devices were probably left wondering if they were forgotten about. Today Mobilicity has dropped OS 6.0.0.650 as an official release for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and 9780 along with the BlackBerry Curve 9300.  Remember, be sure to have a back up of your device prior to installing, and proceed with caution.

Vodafone DE releases OS 6.0.0.600 for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300

BlackBerry 6 Logo

Fancy an official OS on your BlackBerry, instead of a leak? Well owners of both the Blackberry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300, if that’s you, you may now feel free to install OS 6.0.0.600 on your device, as it has been officially released by Vodafone DE. This isn’t a new OS, exactly, as both of these devices as well as the BlackBerry Bold 9700 all saw it as a leak earlier this month. If Vodafone DE isn’t your carrier, you can still install this OS, just be sure to have a quick read about that pesky Vendor.xml file before you do. If you do install, be sure to hit the forums and let us know what you find. As always, use caution when installing this or any OS.

History of BlackBerry (video)

We could write a pretty long article on the history of BlackBerry (and maybe we will), but isn’t watching a video so much more fun? Well the great folks over at Phones4u have put together this awesome crash course video on BlackBerry’s history. It’s actually super well made and gives a great background view on RIM’s path to what we know today as BlackBerry. I have some issues with a couple of inaccuracies like the fact that they showed a 9300 series Curve when talking about the Curve being introduced in 2006 (should’ve been an 8300 instead) and same with the Pearl but that’s just because I nitpick about little things. Either way this video is great. Enjoy!

Leaked OS 6.0.0.600 for the BlackBerry Curve 9300

Looks like the BlackBerry Curve 9300 users get some Friday lovin’ as well. We have leaked OS 6.0.0.600 ready for the taking. Again, hot off the presses so be sure to drop a comment if you do install. Let us know the good, bad and ugly for this guy. Pop out those USB cables and get on it!

*OS Disclaimer – Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you’re comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our FAQ section of our site – do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Rogers Wireless New Upgrade Policy Explained

Rogers Wireless

To all you Canadian BlackBerry users out there, many of you are subject to the wills of Rogers Wireless and their iron clad 3 year contracts.   Canadians have always been the victims of outrageous cell phone contracts and plans, but, the tide seems to be turning in our favour with all the new competition coming from players such as Koodoo, Public Mobile, Mobilicity and Wind.

With this new competition comes better prices and in this case, better upgrade policies.  Rogers Wireless quietly announced on May 6, 2011, a big change to their Hardware Upgrade Policy. Now this is going to get lengthy and might be complicated, but, I will try to break it down.
Lets start with the old system.
