Rdio updates for BlackBerry 7 and unveils first digital music family plan

There are several options for streaming music on your BlackBerry, one of the newest being Rdio. Developed by the creators of Skype, Rdio is cross-platform and packed with great features including playlist and people support as well as music caching for when you are away from wifi or have no signal.

Rdio was recently updated for BlackBerry 7 devices, and today they have become the first service to offer digital music family plans. Families can add up to three accounts to one plan for a discounted subscription rate. Two accounts cost $17.99 per month, a 10 percent savings off the regular Rdio Unlimited monthly rate of $9.99; three accounts cost $22.99 per month, a 23 percent savings. No other digital music service currently provides discounted rates for families. They announced today that they will carry the new BlackBerry Curve 9350 and it will be available on September 9th for $79.99. So if you’re looking for an alternative to the Bold 9930 or Torch 9850 you can pick this up in just a few weeks.

BlackBerry PlayBook to be Available in Hong Kong in Early July

RIM today announced plans to launch its much-anticipated BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in Hong Kong. The BlackBerry PlayBook is scheduled to be released in early July through authorized carrier partners and retail channels in Hong Kong. This announcement comes after we reported last week that the PlayBook will be coming to 16 additional markets within the next month. Let us know if you are in Hong Kong and going to get a PlayBook!

T-Mobile's 4G Network has Download Speeds that Might Break the Sound Barrier

T-Mobile BlackBerry users should be proud to hear that, T-Mobile’s 4G download speeds are faster than ever!!!! …wait 4G? What’s that? Oh Yeah! Thats the network that all these devices work on, except BlackBerry! Maybe RIM should get on this!

Still, this is very cool for T-Mobile customers. The 9900 should be a great phone on the T-Mo network. For AT&T customers this is also good news, seeing how T-Mobiles network and AT&T’s network will be merging very soon.

T-Mobile has seen average download speeds approaching 10Mbps with peak speeds of 27Mbps on the T-Mobile Rocket 3.0 laptop stick (the company’s first 42Mbps device). T-Mobile expects more than 150 million American’s to have access to these increased 4G speeds by mid-2011, which is right around the corner.

Press Release: China Telecom and Research In Motion Launch BlackBerry Services for Small Businesses


Good news for Business users in China as RIM announced plans today to launch BlackBerry services for small businesses. In addition, the companies are launching the BlackBerry Bold 9650 smartphone. Staring tomorrow China Telecom will offer BIS for small business customers who will be able to send and receive email from up to 10 supported work and personal email accounts. Additionally, the service will support BBM and other Instant Messaging services.

China Telecom will also offer BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express, a free software downloaded from RIM that provides small businesses and SOHOs advanced management and security features with no additional software or per user licensing fees.

Press Release: Android sees continued growth while BlackBerry OS falters, comScore says

Android’s U.S. market share is continuing to grow at the expense of RIM, Microsoft, and Palm, according to a new report from comScore that took a snapshot of the mobile phone market during the March quarter. The report found that Android powered 34.7% of all U.S. smartphones, up 6% from December 2010. RIM’s BlackBerry OS market share fell 4.5 points to a 27.1% share of the market, while Microsoft’s Windows and Palm’s webOS each saw a 0.9 percentage point decrease. Apple’s iOS market share jumped 0.5 points to a 25.5% share of the market, just behind RIM’s 27.1% grasp. Samsung remained the most popular mobile phone brand with a 24.5% share of the market, followed by LG (20.9%), Motorola (15.8%), RIM (8.4%), and Apple (7.9%).  The report also found that 234 million Americans above the age of 13 used mobile devices.
