Fake of the Week: Knockoff Torch looks just like the real thing (kind of)

Fake BlackBerry Torch

It’s been quite a while seen we’ve seen a good fake BlackBerry, but Scott let us know that he spotted this knockoff BlackBerry Torch. It looks almost as good as the real thing – complete with slider, trackpad and Torch branding on the back – but this fake also sports some dual-SIM action, TV, Wifi, Bluetooth and more. As you can see from the photos it’s not running a legit BlackBerry OS however, so if that is something you need then you might want to pick up the real thing. Keep reading for a few more images or check it out for yourself. Thanks Scott!

BlackBerry Monza 9860 photos emerge, ready to take the world by Storm

If photos of a new handset are taken without Mr. BlurryCam involved, launch day is likely close at hand. Such is the tale of the BlackBerry Monza 9860 — aka the Monaco, the Storm 3, or a plethora of other code names. Regardless of the title, it’s an all-touchscreen, 1.2GHz device yet to be announced or even acknowledged by its maker. But since when does that ever stop the leaks from piling up to monstrous heights? A new batch of images showing off the fabled handset has come to light, giving us a respectable peek at the phone’s outer beauty; unfortunately, we didn’t learn anything new here. The image above suggests this particular machine is AT&T-bound, but we’re not entirely convinced — it could be a test device that’s unlocked and using the carrier’s HSPA+ network — especially since T-Mobile’s supposedly landing the Monza as early as this week. Perhaps it’s even the “shiny, new and social all over” product expected to be announced tomorrow. The puzzle pieces are definitely getting put together, eh? Check out the gallery below for the latest stunning shots.

New photos of the BlackBerry Torch 9850 & 9860 emerge with Verizon branding

unreleased BlackBerry devices

We’ve seen evidence of the BlackBerry monaco coming to Sprint, and rumor of it hitting Verizon as well, and today we got further confirmation via pictures posted on BerryCN. They have posted up a ton of pictures of the BlackBerry Torch 9850 (CDMA) and 9860 (GSM), highlighting the major difference: the buttons! According to these images, the 9850 is going to have the physical buttons we’ve seen in other photos, and the 9860 will have the capacitive buttons a la the Storm 2. More pictures and video can be seen after the break, with the full gallery at the link below.

Zantel Hires BlackBerry Development Shop to Kickstart African Apps Market

africaEtisalat, which owns a controlling stake in Tanzania’s Zantel, has partnered with app development shop EMS, to develop a new app store for BlackBerry apps. The new store will provide a wide range of apps including games, instant messaging, social networking, news, weather and PIM apps. The Zantel chief commercial officer, Mr Norman Moyo said in the statement that his company decided to come up with the initiative after realising that Africa and Tanzania in particular is in dire need of BlackBerry applications. The problem with the new store is that the carrier should be partnering with RIM on the initiative, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel. We know Etisalat has been spying on its users before, and even though it’s a Zantel initiative, the carrier’s reputation is very tarnished and one should be weary of anything they’re involved in.

If you’re interested in a Nigerian BlackBerry app development company, we recommend you check out 2shekels.com. The Nigerian IT firm has some interesting BlackBerry apps such as TagIt that lets you tag your friends in photos right on your BlackBerry. They also have a ScreenCap app that doesn’t add any watermarks unlike ScreenMuncher and supports sending the photos directly to UberSocial.
