BBM Music appeared in App World Yesterday

It seems that BBM Music is slowly being prepared for mass market launch, as it has been spotted in App World yesterday. The app is still Beta Zone-only & requires a keycode, but it’s quite simple to download now.

With a Period End Date of late September, maybe we are merely weeks away from launch?

BlackBerry Messenger v6.0.1.15 available in BlackBerry Beta Zone

BlackBerry Beta Zone members have a new version of BlackBerry Messenger available today. If you are currently testing BBM Music, you are instructed to stay on BBM v6.0.0.129, but if you aren’t involved in that program, you may feel free to install v6.0.1.15 and give it a whirl. This upgrade is said to have focused on fixing file and picture transfer bugs, as well as the addition of subscription payment support for platform-enabled apps. Be sure to do a back-up before installing, and leave feedback in the Beta Zone discussion forums.

If you’re not already a member of BlackBerry Beta Zone and would like to sign up, head on over to blackberry.com/beta and get registered.

First Impressions: BBM Music Will Be Successful

While many in the blogosphere are already taking shots at RIM’s new BBM Music service after only being out for a few days, it seems that all BlackBerry users that are actually using BBM Music love it. The feedback from within the app is outstandingly positive. I don’t necessarily blame too many people for doubting RIM’s latest music service announcement. I too was extremely hesitant about accepting this idea until I tried it for the first time.

Research In Motion’s plan upon releasing BBM Music publicly, is to allow every new user access for one free month of service to test out the app, invite friends, get your first 50 songs; etc. This will be when users are hooked. Yes this service will be $4.99/month according to rumors and to most, paying $5/month for 50 songs doesn’t really make sense. The point though is that it’s not just 50 songs that you’re getting.

It’s actually a lot more.

BBM Music Feature & Functionality Walkthrough in Screenshots

BBM Music96BBM Music994

As I mentioned before I have really been enjoying BBM Music. I am not ready to do a full review but I thought I would share a ton of screenshots of the app since very few people have access so far. Let us know if you have any questions about the features shown off in the screenshots and I will have somebody answer to the best of our knowledge.

BBM Music Needs “Thumbs Up/Down” Song & User Ratings

BBM Music4 BBM Music1

I have more or less replaced my Slacker listening with BlackBerry Music since yesterday and I have to say I am impressed. I have found some great songs from BBM friends and contacts that I would never have heard otherwise. I find it interesting that my friends tend to avoid the latest Top 100 hits to define themselves and rather are choosing some classic favorites. The thing it not all of them have anywhere near my music taste or simply have bad taste… That is why I am really hoping RIM throws in some social voting options in BBM Music.

BBM Music gets official for BlackBerry owners lusting after Spotify

Nothing warms our hearts quite like the thought of corporate suits and government workers pumping out the tunes of Iris DeMent and Amy Martin as they scurry throughout their busy days. As we’ve previously speculated, a new service for BlackBerry Messenger — dubbed BBM Music — has now become real official. For $5 per month, users may keep up to 50 songs in their personal library, which is kinda reminiscent of the wistful days filled with 128MB MP3 players. Fortunately, it gets better. A social component allows you to add BBM Music friends, which gives you access to their current 50 songs, too — and serves as a real incentive to grow your social circle. Once you get bored of your jam selection, up to 25 songs per month can be swapped out for new ones, and your current library can be stored locally on the handset. The new service begins today in closed beta for residents of the US, Canada and the UK, but more countries will be added down the road. Curious if yours made the list? Just hop the break for the full PR to find out.

Rdio updates for BlackBerry 7 and unveils first digital music family plan

Rdio

There are several options for streaming music on your BlackBerry, one of the newest being Rdio. Developed by the creators of Skype, Rdio is cross-platform and packed with great features including playlist and people support as well as music caching for when you are away from wifi or have no signal.

Rdio was recently updated for BlackBerry 7 devices, and today they have become the first service to offer digital music family plans. Families can add up to three accounts to one plan for a discounted subscription rate. Two accounts cost $17.99 per month, a 10 percent savings off the regular Rdio Unlimited monthly rate of $9.99; three accounts cost $22.99 per month, a 23 percent savings. No other digital music service currently provides discounted rates for families. Full press release and details can be found after the break and if you’re interested in taking Rdio for a spin, head on over to www.rdio.com.

BlackBerry Music to serve up 50 songs for $5 a month?

Well, it looks like BlackBerry’s banking on another BBM to pull it out of the enterprise-only lurch, and this one should be like music to your ears. Earlier this week, we reported that RIM was readying a new music service, and now All Things D is giving us some juicy (unofficial) details on the tentatively titled BlackBerry Music. The publication says $5 a month will give users access to 50 songs that they can share with their BlackBerry-toting friends (also signed up for the service). What’s more, it could be officially pumping the jams to the UK, US, and Canada as soon this fall, with other territories to follow in 2012. Rumor also has it that users won’t be able to port the music to other devices, unless they happen to have a PlayBook handy. Somehow we suspect that last bit won’t be what draws the youngster in.

BlackBerry Music Rumors Continue to Surface

If you have been following some of the recent headlines, you would have seen mention of the new BlackBerry Music service.  Our friends over at CrackBerry posted some new details about the service today.

  • Users will have to download the new standalone BlackBerry music app from App World
  • Once installed, there *should* be a free trial (may vary by country/carrier – but expect a month free)
  • Once the free trial expires, the service will cost $5/mo.
  • With the app installed, you can choose up to 50 songs of your choice. Apparently the catalog selection is pretty good!
  • From there, you invite your contacts via BBM, etc. to also download the app if they don’t have it and join your music sharing network (invited contacts must pay the $5/mo. also to take part and remain part of the service).
  • From there, you can listen to not only the 50 songs you’ve selected), but any of the 50 songs from your music sharing network. So if you have 20 contacts, you’ll have access to 1,000 other songs in addition to your 50. We’re not sure yet if there’s a limit to how many people you can share with, but essentially the more people in your music sharing group the more music you’ll have access to.

It is a good start for the most part, and it will be very interesting to see how this evolves, especially with competing music services like Google Music.
