Using advanced Gmail features for Messages in BlackBerry OS 7

Advanced Gmail Features BlackBerry

Before BlackBerry OS 7, advanced Gmail features were only available in individual messages inboxes (not the combined Messages inbox) using the Enhanced Gmail plugin. The plugin added features such as Report Spam, Add Star, Apply Label and Archive. With BlackBerry 7 these features are brought to the combined messages inbox as well. This is a welcome addition to many BlackBerry users (myself included) that stick to using the combined messages inbox. Keep reading for a quick breakdown of all the advanced Gmail features available for messages.

Managing your Enterprise inbox is simplest on BlackBerry

Filed Messages

I’m an “Inbox Zero” guy – my goal is to empty my email inbox as quickly as possible. Once a message has been dealt with I file it in an appropriate folder immediately. Once it’s filed I move on to the next one. This is also how I deal with my follow-up – if it’s in the inbox it is not done yet.

Depending on how many folders and sub-folders you have it can be quite time consuming to file messages in Outlook, I’m forever dragging and scrolling messages from the Inbox to my labyrinth of sub-folders. I’ve moved to filing exclusively on my BlackBerry smartphone because it is just easier and for those of you who use Outlook can appreciate, the BlackBerry is actually smarter than Outlook.

Free MagicBerry IPD Reader updated to v3.10

Way back in the middle of November 2010, Ronen introduced one of my favourite apps,  MagicBerry to all of us. Well, fret not, this app is still in constant development. In a nutshell, MagicBerry is a Blackberry IPD reader is able to read and extract the following database from the mobile IPD backup file: SMS Messages, Phone Call Logs, Address Book, Service Book, Tasks, memos, Calendar and export them. It also lets you split or merge BlackBerry backup files along with editing service books. You are even able to export to a CSV format.

I highly recommend this app to everyone out there, and as a freeware, it would not hurt to try!

10 Reasons Why BBM Is What It Is

The most beloved BlackBerry native app is hands down BBM. As one of the most used apps on each of our BlackBerry devices, BBM has become a staple in the success of BlackBerry. Many users swear that one of the main reasons they still have or have gotten a BlackBerry is solely based on RIM’s popular instant messenger.

Through out the last couple of years though many companies have come out with their own versions of BBM for other platforms. Apps like Qik, WhatsApp, and others have tried to take a bite out of the instant messaging monopoly that is BBM. Most have failed at prying users away from BBM to use their own apps though. Other instant messaging apps that are still to be released, like iMessage for example, aim to copy BBM’s look and feel but still lack that certain “je ne sais quoi.”

So why is it that BBM has been so successful? What is it that makes it so addicting and fun to use? Here are 10 reasons, in no particular order, why this is the case:

Delete multiple messages

One that I need some serious help for my addiction with GetGlue and two that I need a quick way to delete all the messages that piled up in my inbox. Fortunately for me, our BlackBerry devices come with just such a feature. That way we won’t be sitting there manually deleting each one. Just follow these steps and you’ll be on your way.
