There will also be hands-on demo sessions with the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and some of our BlackBerry development experts, so don’t miss this great opportunity!

The event comprises two parallel sessions, one business-focused and one technology-focused, with members of the technical teams from Research In Motion® (RIM®) and Adobe available to answer your questions. Places are limited, so early registration is recommended – don’t miss it!

Germany’s IT Security Agency Warns of “Critical Weaknesses” in Apple’s iOS

pdf warning in iosThe average consumer simply doesn’t care about security today, but they will in 5 years. You can’t go an entire week without reading a story about the Chinese Government or some hacker group trying to access an individual or corporation’s private data. As smartphones become more ubiquitous, users are going to buy more of the smartphone platform that affords them more protection against malware and potential theft of personal data.

Recently, Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security warned that clicking on an infected PDF file “is sufficient to infect the mobile device with malware without the user’s knowledge” on several versions of Apple’s iOS operating system. A statement filed said that cyber criminals could access confidential information such as passwords, online banking data and emails.

Jabra recommends Bluetooth headsets in lieu of brain tumors

Following the World Health Organization’s revelation last week that cell phones are “possibly carcinogenic to humans based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer associated with wireless phone use,” Jabra has issued an easy fix: instead of putting a cell phone to your ear and possibly getting a brain tumor, use one of its Bluetooth headsets. Jabra says its headsets emit 800 times less radiation than cell phones — just 0.0025 watts max output compared to 2 watts max from cell phones. In a Jabra-sponsored survey, 61% said cell phone radiation only concerned them “a little bit” or “to some extent” and 25% said they were not at all concerned. But when informed that using a Bluetooth headset has been scientifically proven to drastically reduce exposure to radiation, more than half of the respondents said they would use a hands-free device. Hit the break for Jabra’s press release.

BlackBerry 9900 Appears in Vodafone Sales System; Magnum/Dakota Project Still Alive?

bestboyz1 BlackBerry 9900 Appears in Vodafone Sales System; Magnum/Dakota Project Still Alive?

For almost two years there have been rumors suggesting that the BlackBerry 9900 was going to be a Bold/Touchscreen hybrid device, known as the BlackBerry Magnum or Dakota. However, it remained as just that, rumors. There haven’t been much evidence to support a launch of the 9900, whatever it may be. We did see images of the “Magnum”, but no one knew that device’s model number.

Use Gmail to call other phones

Use Gmail to call other phones

“Let me call you using Gmail” – the next time you hear that from your friend, don’t throw a blank stare as though you were technologically ignorant. After all, it has been confirmed that Google allows voice calls to another phone via Gmail – now how about that? It will be free if you decide to place calls to the US and Canada until January 2011 rolls around, while phone calls to other countries will be billed at “very low rates”, although the word low is relative here. For those who love chatting up family and friends in the U.K., France, Germany, China, India, Mexico and Japan among others, you can do so for as little as $0.02 per minute. You dial a number in a similar manner to that of a normal phone, clicking “Call phone” at the top of your chat list beforehand. Only US-based Gmail users will be able to experience this over the next few days, where you will have to install the voice and video plug-in to get started. For a non US-based user, the folks at Google are working on a rollout solution in due time so stay patient!
