RIM announcing new BlackBerry OS 7 devices at BB7 Fan Night

BlackBerry Bold 9900 facepalm

With RIM’s BlackBerry 7 Fan Night coming up on Wednesday in Toronto, rumors are flying around about what exactly is going to happen there. Of course it will be a party, but aside from rubbing elbows with other BlackBerry addicts, nomming on hors d’oeuvre, and of course getting that much anticipated BlackBerry 7 device, just what else is planned?

Well, your first clue is right there. Research In Motion is throwing in a BlackBerry 7 device as part of the prize for those lucky winners from the Twitter contest last week. Since they didn’t specify the prize is a BlackBerry Bold 9900/30 and the event isn’t called BlackBerry 9900 Fan Night, it stands to reason that they have plans to announce at least a few more of the seven devices they assured us were coming this year. Maybe the attendees will even get some hands on time with devices like the BlackBerry Torch 2 9810, or the Torch 9850/60.

RadioShack Contest Offering “Free Phones for Life!” to 4 Lucky Winners!

Phones for life RadioShack

Fred let me know that RadioShack has a slick contest going on right now called the “RadioShack Free Phones for Life Sweepstakes.” They are basing their “Free Phones for Life” prize as $25,000 based on estimated costs of $500 per year for a new BlackBerry for 50 years. I guess they assume your phone will be embedded into your brain in 50 years. The are giving away 4 of these packages so that is 4 possible winners!

They have an odd system going of how to enter that is a bit confusing. Anybody living in the US who is 18 or older can enter to win for free at www.radioshack.com/FreePhonesForLife which gives you 5 entries into the contest. You can enter this way 5 times per week for up to 25 entries. The odd part is that you also get ONE entry for purchasing something at a RadioShack store (unless you live in California), ONE for buying something at RadioShack.com, ONE for applying for a RadioShack credit card, and ONE more for your first purchase with said new RadioShack card. Odd that you would get more entries online than when you actually buy something.

RadioShack is also placing a hard limit of 100 total entries per person or email address no matter how you enter along with a few other restrictions like: One in-store purchase transaction per person/store per day, regardless of number of items purchased; one online purchase transaction per person per day, regardless of number of items purchased; one entry via new RadioShack Credit Card (The Shack Card) application per person. Twenty Five (25) entries via Entry Method #2 (Online form) per person per week.

So what are you waiting for? Enter to win free phones for life every week until July 30th at www.radioshack.com/FreePhonesForLife

First Look: Inside the Army’s App Store for War

If all of the bureaucratic and security hurdles can be overcome, the Army will soon launch its version of an app store, where soldiers can download Army-relevant software to their work computers and — with a little luck — mobile phones. This is what its homepage will look like.

Called Army Marketplace, it’ll start off featuring the few dozen applications that soldiers created last year during the Apps for the Army contest. Those early efforts ran the gamut from workout guides to digitized manuals for standard Army tasks. So far, there are 17 apps for Android phones and another 16 for iPhones.

At BlackBerry World next week? Be sure to collect your PlayBook Passport stamps for a chance to win a free PlayBook!

PlayBook Passport

With BlackBerry World just around the corner, we’re starting to get revved up for what is to be the BIGGEST BlackBerry event of the year. Hopefully we’ll see some cool news announcements next week and get our hands on some new BlackBerry Smartphone hardware. The other thing that’s always nice to see are FREEBIES. I’ve got my fingers crossed that RIM will up and decide to give all attendees a free PlayBook (I know… I’m probably dreaming, but seriously, I need another one to mount in my car) but if that doesn’t happen you still have another chance to get a free BlackBerry PlayBook if you’re at the show.
