Collect App Uses Your Calendar to Easily Track Expenses

9780 9780-01

I always love when devs come up with creative ways to do things. John pointed out to me that EcuadorBB has released Collect for BlackBerry. Its a relatively simple expense tracking app with a very cool twist. It lets you easily enter your expenses using the native BlackBerry calendar app. You simply create a new event in your calendar in their format with expense name then cost (plus or minus) and the category. It will them automatically record them in your local database.

All in all a very cool idea though I would have liked to see some Quickbooks or at least an excel export feature. If the idea intrigues you then

Quick Tip: How to change the default email and calendar on your BlackBerry

Default Services

When I switched devices last week I realized something was wrong when I composed emails or added entries to my calendar. It was using my @blackberry.net address instead of my gmail one. It completely slipped my mind that because I have multiple email accounts my device automatically chose one to be the default for both of those applications upon activation. Now I don’t know about you but I don’t think my BBM Groups would like to know when my next dental appointment is. Rather than manually switching accounts from the Send Using option just follow these quick and painless steps to alter this setting.

How to change the default view on the native BlackBerry Calendar app

Beginners BlackBerry Tip: Changing the default Calendar View

Calendar Options  Calendar Options

Options Galore on the BlackBerry OS: One of the GREAT things about the traditional BlackBerry operating system is that it is FULL of options that allow you to customize your device experience. That benefit is also one of the BAD things about the OS. There are options everywhere, and if you don’t know where to look for them or think to look for them, you may find yourself not taking advantage of them. While opening the main Options “wrench” on the homescreen does provide a ton of device options, you’ll also find the Options link on the Menu within native apps like the Phone app, Email app and Calendar app that provide more options for those apps. The same goes for third party apps.

BlackBerry Calendar Tip of the Day: By default, the BlackBerry calendar shows you the DAY view. By hitting the Menu Key (the BlackBerry logo key to the left of the trackpad), and selecting View, you can then toggle between Day, Month and Agenda views. If you find yourself using views like Month and Agenda more than the Day view, you can easily change the default view from within the Calendar app by going to Menu > Options > Calendar Display and Actions and changing the default under the Views > Initial View option as shown in the screen cap at the top of this post.

There you have it. A simple tip, but a handy one for new to BlackBerry users and even old BlackBerry users (like myself) who get lazy and forget all the power that’s at their fingertips.

Cozi Family Calendar and Organization System Available for BlackBerry

coziCozi is a calendar and organization system designed for families. The app lets you manage your family calendar, shopping lists, and to do lists while you’re on the go. This app is great if you and your wife/spouse don’t both have BlackBerrys, but if you do, you should obviously be doing all of this in a BlackBerry Messenger Group. That’s how Power Couples roll. Features of Cozi include:

  • Manage the family schedule from wherever you are. Add an appointment and upload it to your Cozi account so the whole family can see it.
  • Get your shopping lists while you’re at the grocery store—no more coming home with everything but the one thing you needed.
  • Add a to do list item right when you think of it, and access from your phone or home computer.

Cozi’s BlackBerry App is now available for free in App World[qrcode pix=150]http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/49211?lang=en[/qrcode].

5 Must-Have Applications for Your BlackBerry PlayBook

playbook favoritesThe PlayBook is coming along nicely. Lately, we’ve seen an upgrade to the Facebook application, as well as support for in-app purchases and charging improvements. The major updates that the general public are waiting for, such as local PIM applications, should be coming sometime this summer, and we think it’s really going to improve the overall PlayBook experience. As cool as the Bridge idea is, it’s sort of a pain to constantly connect your BlackBerry, and the Bridge Browser is pretty shoddy. For those of you who have a PlayBook, here are some apps we think you must have on your tablet (in no particular order):
