What is BlackBerry ID? Your key to unlocking future BlackBerry services

BlackBerry ID BBID What is BlackBerry ID? Your key to unlocking future BlackBerry services

With the release of BlackBerry App World 2.0, RIM introduced the BBID, otherwise known as BlackBerry ID. This little app allowed you to have an App World account that stored all of the apps you downloaded via the BBID account versus them being PIN locked to your current device. This let users seamlessly transition between devices without losing the apps they had purchased in App World. It seems RIM is now interested in taking BBID to the next level by making it your universal key to unlock various BlackBerry services.

Once you’ve signed up for a BBID, you get the following message e-mailed to you with details about what BBID will be.

BlackBerry App World 2.0 is Official! Check out the Video Review!

Hello,

First off I would like to introduce the most important feature of BlackBerry App World 2.0. Credit Card/Carrier Billing Payment Option: Users are now able to purchase applications using major credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard. That means you will no longer be obliged to use Paypal as your primary source for payment. Carrier billing may also be supported by certain carriers. If you do not have a credit card or paypal, simply bill the app to your carrier. How cool and convenient is that? BlackBerry ID: This enables credit card payments and allows customers to seamlessly transfer their personal library of free and purchased apps when they switch to a new BlackBerry smartphone. Personally, this is one of my favorites! QR Barcode Scanning: This allows users to scan a QR code associated with an application from anywhere – the web, print ads, brochures, etc. BlackBerry App World 2.0 will quickly find the related application and automatically open and download its page. Easier Application Discovery:This feature adds new tabbed sections for various applications lists. Users can horizontally swipe or scroll to quickly view the Top 25 Free Apps, Top 25 Paid Apps and Top 25 Themes, as well as the Newest Apps and Recently Updated Apps.

That’s it for this post. Have you had the chance to upgrade to 2.0 already? What is your favorite feature? Let us know!

BlackBerry App World 2.0 roll out to begin soon

After having just recently been released in beta form, BlackBerry App World 2.0 is now set to roll out to the masses at some point today. Lots of new things happening with the actual release version that were not fully present in the beta release. A quick breakdown is as follows:

Credit Card Payment Option

  • With the new BlackBerry App World, customers are able to purchase applications using major credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard. Carrier billing may also be supported by certain carriers.

Easier Application Discovery

  • BlackBerry App World adds new tabbed sections for various applications lists. Users can horizontally swipe or scroll to quickly view the Top 25 Free Apps, Top 25 Paid Apps and Top 25 Themes, as well as the Newest Apps and Recently Updated Apps.

QR barcode scanning

  • Is now  supported, allowing users to scan a QR code associated with an application from anywhere – the web, print ads, brochures, etc. BlackBerry App World will quickly find the related application, and automatically open and download its page.

BlackBerry ID

  • BlackBerry ID provides customers with a device-independent user identification (ID) for BlackBerry App World. It enables credit card payments and allows customers to seamlessly transfer their personal library of free and purchased apps when they switch to a new BlackBerry smartphone.

The UI changes and overall performance enhancements that BlackBerry App World 2.0 brings should make it a great update. One of the most notable changes however though, is that BlackBerry App World as of today will allow developers to set pricing on their apps starting at $0.99. The upgrade is set to be rolled out today, so be on the lookout for an update notification so that you may get the most up to date release when it becomes available. In case anyone was counting as well, BlackBerry App World now has paid apps in 58 countries.

.

A while back, we let you know what you could expect in BlackBerry App World 2.0, though there wasn’t much solid information available as to when we could expect it. As of this morning, App World 2.0 has officially been made available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone.Picture 72 300x96 BlackBerry App World 2.0 Hits BlackBerry Beta Zone! (Updated with Screenshots)

Among the changes is a new Top 25 list, sorting into multiple categories including Newest, Recently Updated, and Themes, in addition to the new BlackBerry ID which makes it easy to manage purchased applications from any BlackBerry handset. It looks like carrier billing hasn’t been implemented as of yet, but it isn’t surprising considering this is the first beta release of v2.0.

RIM Introduces BlackBerry App World 2.0 With Carrier Billing, BlackBerry ID & More

blackberry app world logo 287x121 RIM Introduces BlackBerry App World 2.0 With Carrier Billing, BlackBerry ID & More

We’ve heard that RIM is working on a new version of the BlackBerry App World and it looks like it’s coming real soon. According to one report, BlackBerry App World version 2.0 will include some minor usability enhancements as well as new features:

  • Search Function: Searching for apps in version 2.0 of the App World is drastically improved and should return more relevant and better results.
  • Carrier Billing: A user will be able to put charges on their credit card or carrier bill instead of paying through PayPay (although PayPal will still be supported).
  • BlackBerry ID: A user will be able to create a BBID so they can transfer and access their apps should they ever change to another BlackBerry smartphone.
  • QR Barcodes: Vendors and developers will be able to create a barcode for their product in the BlackBerry App World (2.0) that a user can scan and then be directed to the download page.

A great bunch of updates! RIM has slowly been rolling out support for more countries like (recently) Japan, Taiwan and South Korea so they’ll probably be adding support for even more after the release of 2.0. RIM hasn’t announced a launch date for BlackBerry App World 2.0 or BlackBerry ID but stay tuned for more info because it’s probably right around the corner.
