Version 3.11 – 25 August 2011

  • Quick Reply is now way nicer! Making it much easier to view multi-line messages.
  • Scrolling through messages using the trackball is now much faster and smoother.
  • You can now buy a license through BlackBerry App World, quick and easy, so please support us!
  • When downloading an MMS, pictures and videos are better matched to the capabilities of the phone.
  • Accents are ignored when searching for a contact, so you can look for “Véronique” by typing “ver”.
  • In Quick Reply, if you enter text then press [Open] your text is no longer lost.

CrunchSMS is free, though after 7 days a banner will appear within the app to encourage you to purchase it in order to remove the banner. You can do so for $6.99, though it’s not necessary for the app to function.

Basecamp and BlackBerry – let's summit up

37signals launched a web-based project management tool, which was dubbed Basecamp. By using this online tool, users could create, manage and share documents or other files, time trackers, tasks and more. It also creates a centralized, participatory method of communication between teams and/or clients through the use of message boards and comments – much like we see in the our sister sites forums. Tasks or projects can be assigned due dates and to a specific team member to complete. Through the time tracker the team can report how long they worked on each task, either in the Time tracking section or the To-Do section. It really is an amazing way to see what needs to be done, who is working on it, how long they’ve taken and what everyone has to say. It’s arguably a lot more productive (and exciting) than a simple email or calendar entry.

Now you could always access it from your laptop when you’re on the go, but sometimes all you need and all you have access to, is your BlackBerry. Is there a problem with that? Of course not, it’s a BlackBerry! If you are a current, or potential, Basecamp customer, here are some options you can look at to access what you need right from your BlackBerry.

Leaked: Email Setup Application v7.11.0619.1924 (OS6+)

Another leaked Email Setup App emerges from the recently leaked OS 7.0.0.187. This should only be installed on a OS 6 device, nothing lower. Also, keep in mind that this is a leak so use digression. Here is a few words of advice from the creator of the leak…

Desktop install recommendedEmail Setup Application v7.11.0619.1924 from the 7.0.0.187 leak

Try at your own risk – but this definitely works on 9800 – OS .570+ (what I’ve used it on) and therefore **should** work fine on 9780, 9700, 9300, 910x – other devices I’m not sure about.

I recommend a backup before installing, just to be on the safer side (I normally just inject the .cods into any Javas I’m about to install or after I’ve installed and restored)

Free Playbook Video Downloader (Sideload Only)

Follow Me On Twitter For Support and Updates: PlaybookRev Twitter
The Blackberry Playbook Youtube Downloader application being reviewed has many useful features. Besides acting as a Youtube video downloader the app can be used to watch videos privately as recently watched videos are not stored. Another plus is that bandwidth is transferred through private servers, rather than busy Youtube, so the videos are always loading quick and downloads are fast as well. When available you can draw 480P, 720P and 1080P MP4 videos and download them directly to your Playbook for later viewing.
You can download the app via a .Bar file and sideload it to your Playbook.

Once you load the app this is your initial screen. Here you will see the recently watched videos (by everyone) and a search bar.

Bye bye GPSLogger, say hello to GPSLogger II

A GPS Application for BlackBerry Smartphones

GPSLogger II

2 Years (and 1 week) ago we reviewed the GPSLogger application. Matthias (emacberry.com) originally developed the application in order to record your movement. Speed, elevation, direction, path; almost everything was captured effortlessly. In fact, GPSLogger didn’t just capture current values, but track and graph the values recorded at each interval throughout your trek. It even included a compass mode, import/export GPX and KML files, night mode viewing, and the ability to keep logs of POI along the way.

Now I speak of it in past tense because GPSLogger has been succeeded by GPSLogger II. Completely rewritten, it adds a slew of impressive functionality. Through BBM6 integration, GPSLogger II allows you to share your location (or direction) with your BBM contacts automatically. Now that’s definitely a new way to stay connected through BBM. No need to ask where they are, you’ll be able to tell instantly. Keep in mind that this feature is only available to BBM6 beta testers for now. If you aren’t one of them, you can still enjoy the following new features:

  • Append Logging
  • BlackBerry Maps
  • Additional (multiple) Views
  • Emergency Alerts
  • Sharing Location (email)
  • Configurable Status Bar
  • Additional new Keyboard shortcuts
  • Elevation plausibility check
  • Additional information: The climb in percen and the average speed over the last minute
  • The Distance Alert [GPSLogger: Special Options]

You’ll also be happy to know that, despite all of these new features now available, GPSLogger II is free. Check out the new features in detail after the jump.
