BlackBerry Curve 9380 debuts in its very own silent film

A few days ago one of from a forum members we were lucky enough to show off some pictures of the BlackBerry Curve 9380 for us all to see, and now the folks at MacBerry.de have taken it in-front of the camcorder to show it off a little bit more. The video shows off just how small the device is in comparison to some other devices, and while we are still boggled by the naming scheme that RIM has chosen, the device does look like one that will interest quite a number of you. The 3.25″ display is powered by a 800MHz processor with 1GB of flash memory and 512MB of RAM on board. Hit the break to take a glance at some more pictures.

BlackBerry PlayBook Commercial Shows Off BlackBerry Bridge

We all know BlackBerry’s marketing department isn’t the greatest, specially when it comes to commercials. We all know how long it took for a PlayBook commercial to finally hit the airways and truth be told these commercials have left lots to be desired when compared to other competitors’ tablets’ commercials. Well there’s a new commercial that’s making its way on TV. This time, RIM highlights the awesome BlackBerry Bridge benefit of owning both a PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphone. About time too as this should’ve been one of the top selling points to drive current BlackBerry owners to not only buy the RIM tablet but also stay with their BlackBerry smartphones as a whole.

Video: BBM 6 – Introducing the new BBM Commercial

When your IM application is one of the cornerstones of your mobile device, do you release an update without announcing it to the whole world? RIM has started releasing videos promoting BBM 6 & it’s integration with other applications.

What’s been your experience with BBM 6 & BBM Integration?

The New York Times tackles BlackBerry versus iPhone

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/bcvideo/1.0/iframe/embed.html?videoId=100000000970010&playerType=embed

Oh my stars, folks; someone got it right! The debate over which smartphone is better, BlackBerry or iPhone, has raged since the dawn of…well, the iPhone. In this video from The New York Times, assistant technology editor Sam Grobart, and Dealbreak editor Andrew Ross Sorkin finally have it out. Mano a mano, suits versus khakis, iPhone vs. BlackBerry.

The two swap smartphones (and their clothes transform, apparently to great surprise), and hilarity ensues. Well, no but the pair do come to a bit of a realization. The phones both have nice features and are great pieces of technology, but the borrowed devices just “weren’t right for” them.

At CrackBerry.com, we’re firm believers that there is no one smartphone perfect for each and every person. Kevin’s Hierarchy of Smartphone Needs explains this in much greater detail (it’s classic Kevin, but it’s a good read).  The video up there gives a great demonstration of the hierarchy in action. The best smartphone is the one that best delivers what the user wants to do. Communication and security are the BlackBerry’s forté, media and entertainment are the iPhone’s.

In the end, the question isn’t “What’s the best smartphone?”  It’s “What’s the best smartphone for me?”

RIM Explains PlayBook FIPS Government Certification & More

FIPS Certification PlayBook Interview

The BlackBerry PlayBook became the first and only FIPS US government certified tablet this month which is a pretty big milestone for RIM. While their smartphones are certified RIM has already had the BlackBerry PlayBook cryptographic kernel certified for government use which opens up the doors for the biggest tech consumer in the US to purchase them.

RIM has thankfully posted a video interview with Michael K. Brown, Director of Security Product Management at RIM, to explain a bit about what FIPS certification is and why it is so important. He also explains why this kind of security certification is essential for government clients alongside healthcare and financial clients. Check out the video below including the golf carts driving by in the background…
