Humorous FedEx Office Print & Go commercial features two BlackBerry Torches

I ran across this commercial for FedEx Office Print & Go today, and while it’s not new exactly, I thought it was humorous as well as informative. Who can’t use a laugh on a Monday, right? This ad features a couple of business men at FedEx Office, trying to print a document from their boss, using their BlackBerry Torches. It’s a clever ad, and reminded me that I want to try this app out sometime. After watching the tutorial video for HP ePrint and seeing how easy it looks to print documents from your device right to the copier at FedEx Office, without ever having to wait for an employee to do it for you or rent the computers there to get to your document, I can really see how this would be a valuable application for anyone on-the-go that needs to print something quick. You can check out more information at the links below.

Bayalink announces BlackBerry connector for iPad

Bayalink Liberty

Bayalink hasn’t been much in the spotlight, but we have checked them out a few times in the past. If you’re not familiar with them, the idea is basically an application that allows you to interact with your BlackBerry using a full size display and keyboard via your PC. You can interact with most apps (some 3rd party are exceptions) including email, calendar, contacts, tasks, memos, and browser. Today Bayalink let us know that they are looking for beta testers for their BlackBerry connector for iPad. This will allow you to use your iPad to connect to and control your BlackBerry Smartphone.

Bayalink Liberty gives iPad users unique capability to securely connect to their BlackBerry data and interact with that data using the tablets screen and keyboard similar to how the Liberty technology has been used by enterprise customers for years on the PC, laptop and notebook. In subsequent releases, users will be able to surf the internet or intranet through the BlackBerry (with no VPN required) on a disconnected iPad via their standard BlackBerry data plan.

Users interested in participating in the beta program (which will start in a few months) can send an email to beta@bayalink.com for more info. Keep reading for the full press release.

Worth Ave Group – A new way to insure your BlackBerry

We all love our BlackBerry smartphones, but what happens when the unthinkable occurs? What if you drop your prized possession and it breaks into a million pieces? What if you go to set your BlackBerry down in the cupholder in your car, but you realize all too late that there is a cup of coffee there? What do you do when these unfortunate events happen?

Well, you have a few options, but I want to tell you about a new option I just recently learned about at CES.

I met with a company called Worth Ave Group and they explained to me about their cell phone insurance. They have policies starting at $45 per year depending on the coverage amount, and each claim only has a $50 deductible. The nice thing about this insurance as opposed to the policies offered by carriers is that there are unlimited claims during your policy term. Now that is not to say that you can go overboard with claims, but sometimes bad things may happen, and the limited amount of claims typically provided by the carrier insurance may not be enough.

Another nice feature that Worth Ave Group has is laptop insurance. Now you’re probably wondering what this has to do with your BlackBerry, and since you’re wondering, I’ll tell you. If you add a policy for your laptop, you can add a $10 rider on that policy to cover your BlackBerry as well. So if you were thinking about insuring your laptop in the first place, this may be something you want to look into as well for your BlackBerry.

Let me run you through two examples of coverage:

Example 1 – Insurance for a BlackBerry Bold 9780 with a suggested retail price of $449.99 on T-Mobile. The cost for insurance with Worth Ave Group would be $53 per year, or about $4.42 per month, and you’d have a $50 deductible if you made a claim.

Example 2 – Insurance for a laptop valued at $700 and a BlackBerry smartphone. The cost for this policy with Worth Ave Group would be $60 per year, or about $5 per month, and this is also with a $50 deductible.

To me, it makes the most sense to bundle your BlackBerry insurance with your laptop, but either way I think it’s a great value.

Head over to Worth Ave Group‘s website and take a look for yourself. This may just be the policy you were looking for.

Use your BlackBerry to make purchases at Starbucks across the US!

Back in September we let you know that Starbucks was testing out their new mobile card app in limited markets. It looks like their testing went well, because starting Wednesday, January 19, the app is going official across the US. What does this mean for you? Just enter your Starbucks Card number and your BlackBerry Tour, Curve or Storm becomes your Starbucks Card. You can register your card, check your balance and track the Stars you earn toward free beverages through My Starbucks Rewards.

And here’s the coolest feature: you can pay for your drink using the Starbucks Card Mobile app! Enter your card number and your device will display a barcode you can use as your Starbucks Card to make purchases. Mobile Pay is available at more than 7,500 Starbucks stores, including all Target Starbucks stores, in the United States. To download Starbucks Card Mobile for your BlackBerry, text GO to 70845.

I hope Starbucks expands the availability of the app to more BlackBerry models and other countries, and soon! There is a huge chunk of market out there they are missing out on with the current limitations. If you are a Tour, Curve, or Storm owner in the US will you be trying out the Starbucks Card Mobile app?
