Skylab recently released a bunch of city and country offline maps for Blackberry Playbook. This was very exciting news, as currently most the map applications require downloading the maps online and caching the trip. However, Skylab seems to be playing marketing games here, as the data is only on device when you browse to a location and cache it online.  So this is really not a real on-device map like many other GPS apps in different platforms (TomTom, Igo, Navigon) where the full map is stored on your device. Those apps will work fine perfectly without any data connectivity. On the other hand Skylab’s software will not.

Find Near MeIt’s always important to find a good WiFi spot with your PlayBook and the Find Near Me app can help you do that and more. The Find Near Me app for the PlayBook helps you find ATMs, Banks, Restaurants, WiFi spots and more. The app uses the built-in GPS in the PlayBook and plots pointers as overlays on a map to show points of interest in the vicinity of your current location. Travel the world on your BlackBerry PlayBook with What's It Like In… by jbloomDesigns!

If you travel frequently for business, you may know what it feels like to be headed to a new town, and not know anything about it. With over 22,000 cities worldwide that you can choose from, you’re sure to find some cool stuff. And if you’re not a traveller, this is a fun way to find out about what’s going on around the world. Take the kids on a vacation without ever leaving the couch, and it only costs $1.99. I hope with future updates they can include local attractions and tourist hotspots, but for now it’s an interesting little app and fun to browse through.
